Havachons are very willful dogs and it may not be difficult to train them if they are taught by a good and a competent trainer. They have mixed temperament derived from their parents – the Bichon Frise and the Havanese. They are playful and are responsible animals.
The Havachon can be good as watch dogs and on arrival of guests, they will alarm you. They are quiet intelligent and can differentiate between a good and a bad man. They are quiet shy and will hide if some known guests come towards them. However, they will become quiet aggressive if they are constantly irritated (while this is quite rare). Without proper training they can become very timid and shy. However, the Havachons hate to be lonely and will always need someone to play with.
They do not harm children in general, neither over- protect them. They will play with them and treat them well in general. However, never leave your children totally unsupervised with these dogs.
Good behavior of these Havanese mix breed primarily depends upon how you train them and choosing the correct method for training these dogs depends on dog to dog.

Health and Immunization
Few diseases are associated with these dogs. Like all mix breeds they have common bone related problems such as hip and elbow dysplasia which can further be a cause of arthritis, causing extreme pain, discomfort and lameness. Make sure you take these dogs for routine checkups to have a control over these diseases. Proper diet, mild exercise and keeping a check will make them live long and happy. These dogs may develop diabetes and obesity if they do not exercise well. A 30 to 40 minute walk, every day, shall be suitable for this breed. Along with physical exercise, don’t forget to stimulate their brains. It will help your dog to be away from mental diseases.
Havachons and other Havanese mix breeds should be immunized at regular intervals so that they are protected from various diseases caused by dangerous viruses. Some mandatory vaccines for this purpose includes: – Parvovirus, Rabies, Distemper, Coronavirus, Hepatitis A and B, Influenza and Parainfluenza vaccines. Inject annual booster shots from an experienced vet.
It is recommended that the hairs of these dogs should be trimmed since puppy hood. Unnecessary and unwanted hair should be clipped off. Brush their coat at least twice or thrice a week as these dogs do shed, although to a very small extent. Hairs on the toes shall also be trimmed so that your dog looks much smarter and cleaner. Brush their teeth with a gentle brush and tooth sensitive toothpaste to maintain dental hygiene.
Cut their nails once a month and check for any ear infections. Use a ear cleanser (pH balanced and mild) to keep their ears safe from ear infections and clean their ears with a small ball of cotton soaked in this solution. Do this very carefully. Be patient when you groom them. Do not hurt them. Take your dog for health checkups once a month.
You can adopt or rescue a dog by taking into consideration several guidelines set by the American Canine Hybrid Club, Designer Dogs Kennel Club, Dog Registry of America, Inc., International Designer Canine Registry and Designer Breed Registry as these are mix breeds. Never take a first generation breed as they are liable to get many genetic diseases. Third and fourth generation dogs are always preferred.
